Backfill Materials Needed to Measure Thermal Resistivity of Soil

Tempsand can assist companies and individuals with laboratory and field services that are designed to help measure the required amount of backfill materials needed for various pipelines and disposals and measurement services for the thermal resistivity of soils.

They pride themselves on having both the technical expertise and the knowledge to guarantee their soil thermal resistivity testing services. For instance, they have made it a point to only hire the most experienced geotechnical engineers to be provide and describe the analysis they compile about your soil and its thermal behavior. We can provide our services to companies all over the world that deal with the gas and electric industry. We have worked with larger companies and smaller companies globally.

Whenever a company is contemplating a new thermal storage facility design or cable design, it is important to always get an estimation of the soil’s thermal behavior. This is the only way that a company can be sure to get a complete soil diagnostic for a site and be able to determine any variations of thermal dissipation that might exist in the site’s soil. These readings are important to make sure that the cable alignments and cabling requirements are met. The information obtained from it can also help to identify if and what type of backfill material might be needed.

What to Expect from Tempsand’s Soil Thermal Resistivity Services

Tempsand’s soil thermal resistivity testing services are done in two different stage. Each stage is significant to their process, and below, you can view the different steps that Tempsand’s engineers go through during each stage.

First Stage:

  • First step of this stage is to conduct an onsite thermal resistivity test on the soil of the area where the thermal storage facility or cables are proposed to be installed.
  • They then gather up all of the representative soil samples in a collection to assist those back at the office.

Second Stage:

  • Once the soil samples reach Tempsand’s soil laboratory, each sample is dried out so their experts can identify the thermal resistivity of the soil samples with different variations of moisture content. When determining soil thermal resistivity, the water content and density are an important step.
  • After doing all of this, Tempsand will be able to tell you if the soil is suitable or not. If it isn’t suitable, they will give you a few different options of backfill materials, but they will also provide you with their personal recommendation on which is the most suitable for your needs.
